Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B F SC)
B.F.Sc. or Bachelor of Fisheries Science is an undergraduate Fisheries Science course. It is the science that is involved in managing, catching, processing, marketing and conservation of Fish. The duration of Bachelor of Fisheries Sciences course is four years spread over a number of semesters which are mostly eight in numbers. The course can be pursued either as a Full Time Graduate Course or Part Time Graduate Course i.e. through Correspondence or Distance Education depending upon one’s choice. The course is also known as B.Sc.
(Fisheries). The course is studies habits and breeding of various species of fish. It involves farming and husbandry of important fishes and aquatic organisms in fresh water, brackish water and any marine environment. The course is very valuable and important for farm and fish communities and provides a lot of career scopes after its completion.
B.F.Sc. Eligibility
To pursue a B.Sc. (Fisheries) or B.F.Sc. degree, a candidate needs to be 10+2 pass in science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as subjects.
The candidate also needs to appear for an all India Level Common Entrance Test conducted by ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research), New Delhi, to get admission in various Central Institute of Fisheries.
Age limit is Minimum 17 years and Maximum 20 Years.

After completing B.F.Sc, the higher option available is to go
for M.F.Sc. (Masters of Fisheries Science) or candidates can get
into job positions like technicians, biochemist, research

B F SC Entrance Exam Pattern
BFSc exam is of objective type with about 180 to 200 multiple choice exams from different areas in PCM and biology. The candidate should write the answers with care as Marks are deducted for each wrong answer and the exam duration is for two and half hours.

First, there should be genuine interest in marine life and should be free from sea sickness.
Candidates should have research oriented mentality and mind, dedication to work, devotion, hard working, patients, a curious, inquisitive mind are also good match for it.
They should have good managerial skills which are required in everywhere in this field.
Those who want to go for further higher degrees and then for research work also are suitable for it.
How is B.F.Sc. Course Beneficial?
The course enables one to be technically qualified fisheries professional with sufficient skills to manage, conserve and develop diversified fisheries resources in the country for food security and quality fish protein.
One can go for M.F.Sc. (Masters of Fisheries Science) after completing B.F.Sc.
Other benefit is that they can run their own fish farming.

curriculum
The curriculum followed by various
institutes for BFSc is designed by Indian Council of Agricultural
Research (ICAR). To meet the regional requirements, the curriculum
and syllabus can be modified or changed by the Academic Council of
the AU, but should not vary more than 30% as prescribed by the
ICAR. The candidate should score a minimum credit of 160 for the
graduate degree excluding the non credit courses. The students need
to attend lecture classes, assignments, practical labs etc. They
should also do small projects as a partial fulfillment of the
course.
